Looking Forward

The Board of Directors and staff of the Placer SPCA operate under a long-term Strategic Plan. I would like to share with you some of our goals for 2010 and beyond.

First of all, as always, we will work hard to reduce the number of animals surrendered to us and increase the number of animals returned to their owners. Affordable spay and neuter programs are absolutely essential to reducing the number of homeless companion animals. Through the Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), the Placer SPCA has helped thousands of Placer County residents, thanks to participation by area veterinarians. In the near future, we plan to introduce Community Spay Days to offer even more low-cost spay and neuter opportunities.

We will continue to expand our foster care program. Having volunteers care for animals in their homes increases our center’s capacity and gives the animals much-needed human contact.

In addition to making every effort to place healthy and treatable animals in permanent homes, we will also continue to work with adoption partners to place specific breeds.

To increase our adoption capacity and expand our presence beyond South Placer County, we are currently in the process of evaluating the feasibility of opening a Satellite Adoption Center. It is also important to build upon our current relationships through collaboration with other animal welfare organizations, adoption partners, and government entities to offer expanded programs and services to all of Placer County.

As a responsible nonprofit organization, we explore diversified ways to raise funds. One exciting recent development is the prospect of opening a Placer SPCA thrift store. Stay tuned for future announcements; we will be seeking donations of items and volunteers to staff the store.

Our board, staff, and volunteers will continue to work together to better communicate the unique identity of the Placer SPCA. All communication should consistently express who we are and what we do, as well as who we are not. The Placer SPCA is an independent nonprofit organization, not affiliated with any other local or national animal welfare organization, and does not receive donations through the ASPCA or HSUS.

It has been acknowledged that the space for animals and staff in our existing facility is limited. Placer SPCA plans to move to a new South Placer adoption and education center in the next three to five years. Significant planning efforts and collaboration with local municipalities will be required for land acquisition and raising the capital needed for a new facility.

As we look forward to the coming year, we know many of our goals are ambitious. We will continue to meet challenges and create opportunities to make our vision a reality: that every adoptable companion animal in Placer County has a home.

Sincerely,

Leilani Vierra
Chief Executive Officer
