Placer SPCA Volunteer Jobs
Office AssistantHelp with different office-related functions including answering telephones, filing and preparing mailings.  May also include providing some customer assistance.

Training Requirements:

  • Volunteer Orientation                                                               

  • On the Job Office Training                                                       

Special Event Volunteer. Assists with fundraising events in the community.  This can include BBQ & Blues, Funny Bones, pet photos with Santa, gift-wrapping, etc.  Ideal for volunteers with limited time.

GroomerVolunteer groomers help shelter dogs look their best to meet potential adopters.

Training Requirements:

  • Volunteer Orientation                                                                                                             

  • Dog Bathing Training
     

    • Level 1.Program Intro. & K-9 Body Postures                                

    • Level 2.Safe Handling & Kennel Conditioning                       

    • Level 3. Walking & Training

Foster Care Provider (Adult Volunteers Only).  Volunteers in this program care for shelter animals in their own home.  These animals may be too young to be adopted, need to be bottle-fed, need socialization or have health problems.  The length of stay in a volunteer’s home may range from a few days to several weeks depending upon the needs of the animal.

 Training Requirements:

  • Volunteer Orientation                                                               

  • Foster Parenting                                                                      

  • Individual Interview with Behavior Manager                             

AND safety handling training dependent upon type of animal to be fostered:

  • Cat Socialization & Safe Handling                                            

  • Rabbit/Critter Safe Handling

  • Dog Socialization & Handling:

    • Dog Bathing Training

    • Level 1.Program Intro. & K-9 Body Postures                                

    • Level 2.Safe Handling & Kennel Conditioning                       

    • Level 3. Walking & Training

Behavior Foster Care Provider (Adult Volunteers Only).  Volunteers care for shelter animals in their own home and assist them with an individualized training program to correct behavioral issues.

Training Requirements:

  •             Volunteer Orientation                                                               

  •             Foster Parenting                                                                      

  •             Individual Interview with Behavior Manager                             

AND safety handling training dependent upon type of animal to be fostered:

  • Cat Socialization & Safe Handling                                            

  • Rabbit/Critter Safe Handling

  • Dog Socialization & Handling:

    • Dog Bathing Training

    • Level 1.Program Intro. & K-9 Body Postures

Humane Education Assistant.  Assists the Humane Educator with educational presentations or events.  Duties may include preparing materials, co-facilitating a class, handling an animal, supervising youth projects, conducting tours of the shelter, assisting with off-site events, helping with the Youth for Animals Club, etc.

  • Volunteer Orientation                                                               

  • Individual Interview with Humane Educator
