Guardian Angel
Sometimes medical treatment is the one thing
standing between a dog or cat’s chance of
finding a loving home.
Our Guardian Angel program was established
to help special needs animals receive the
care and attention they need before being
placed into their permanent loving home. The
program helps treat conditions such as
heartworm, bordetella and various
infections, as well as helps us cover
veterinary expenses for diagnostic tests and
other non-routine procedures. In addition,
the Guardian Angel program can help pay for
procedures such as dental work and grooming,
which increase an animal’s chance of finding
a new home.
Some of our animals who greatly benefited
from Guardian Angels…
Purdy was a sweet, 1 ˝ year old girl when
she came to our shelter in such severe pain,
she could barely walk. Thanks to the help
of one of our local veterinarians, it was
determined that Purdy suffered from an
infection in her spine. After receiving
five months of treatment, Purdy – who was
never shy with kisses or showering her
caretakers with affection regardless of the
pain and discomfort - was able to recover
fully, thanks again to our generous Guardian
Angels.
Daisy came to our shelter clearly in
discomfort. It took a visit to a local
veterinarian and x-rays to determine that
Daisy had a bullet – Yes, a bullet! – lodged
in her sinus cavity. Thankfully, Daisy
received surgery to remove the bullet and
her new owners report that she is still
living the lavish lifestyle as a lap cat!
Poor Riley came into our shelter with such
severe skin disease that he only had a few
tufts of hair left on his body. After a few
weeks of treatment, Riley’s appearance and
disposition improved greatly! Now Riley
continues to greet his new owners as he did
with our staff and volunteers everyday –
with a tennis ball and a few happy spins!
Stories like these are the rule, not the
exception here at the Placer SPCA, as we
strive to provide special treatment and give
a second chance to those who need it most.
